Okay the deck you have has gone too long without having been properly sealed and now it's boards are twisting and splintering so badly you can't walk on your deck bare footed for fear of running a 6" sliver through your foot.

At Palmetto Home & Deck we can replace the boards that we feel are not restorable. This could be as many a single board to complete deck replacement.

We often see decks that are actually hazardous to walk on and a few of them have had their owner step through a rotten board narrowly missing serious injury. In this case we would inspect the sub-structure for damage and structural integrity. If the underlying framing is okay only a new deck surface would be needed.

At this point the owner can decide if they want to go back with the original type of decking that was on the deck or they can choose several optional decking materials. Some owners go back with a composite decking material. While composites have their own set of problems, they are available in different colors and textures that range from wood grain to a brushed finish. The brand we prefer is made by Timbertech and we are a Timbertech Elite Contractor.

There are also exotic hard woods on the market often referred to as Iron Wood or IPE. This a very heavy, dense wood that weathers to a gray patina, but other than that it should hold up to the weather for up to 50 years. The cost of these woods are right in line with the composites, but since they are hard to work with the labor will run more than on any other material.

Perhaps while you are replacing your decking boards you might want to up-date that old railing too. Or maybe you never have liked the steps where they are or liked the direction the deck boards were running. Now is a good time to get the deck you have always wanted.
